GOD OF THE VALLEY

Key Passage: 1 Kings 20: 23-25, 28-29

Then the servants of the king of Syria said to him, "Their gods are gods of the hills. Therefore they were stronger than we; but if we fight against them in the plain, surely we will be stronger than they. "So do this thing: Dismiss the kings, each from his position, and put captains in their places; "and you shall muster an army like the army that you have lost, horse for horse and chariot for chariot. Then we will fight against them in the plain; surely we will be stronger than they." And he listened to their voice and did so. Then a man of God came and spoke to the king of Israel, and said, "Thus says the LORD: ‘Because the Syrians have said, "The LORD is God of the hills, but He is not God of the valleys," therefore I will deliver all this great multitude into your hand, and you shall know that I am the LORD.’" And they encamped opposite each other for seven days. So it was that on the seventh day the battle was joined; and the children of Israel killed one hundred thousand foot soldiers of the Syrians in one day.

A valley is an elongated lowland between ranges of mountains, hills or other uplands. It is symbolic of a time or season of difficulty, disappointment, misery, sorrow, failure or defeat. At such a time or season, a person is in a stumpy spirit, his motivation is low and he is unfit for any hard work or exercise. A person having a valley experience wants to be left alone; he wants to be free from any manner of stress and disturbance; and the last thing he wants at such a time is to fight.

Such times and seasons are the periods the devil wants most to attack. Satan is an evil strategist. He knows that when you are spiritually strong and emotionally virile, you are likely to put up great resistance against his onslaughts. He prefers then to attack when you are in a low spirit and unwilling to arise and fight back. Then, he musters his evil powers to attacks your spiritual life, your finances, your business, your career, your family and your marriage, with the intent of destroying your life and destiny.

We must know as God’s children that our God is God, both of the mountain and of the valley. He is Master over every situation and circumstance. Nothing is beyond His control and no situation is beyond His power. He has the whole world in His hands and His authority rules over all. He is always there for His children at the good times and at the bad times; on the mountain and in the valley. He never forsakes His own. Call upon Him in whatever situation you may face in life and He will answer. Take authority in faith as a believer and resist the devil and he will flee. God will give you the victory.

Pray, In the name of Jesus, I resist the devil in every area of my life, and I command that his works be destroyed in my life, my business, my career, my family and my marriage.
