GOD'S BATTLE AXE

Key Passage: Jeremiah 51: 20-23

"You are My battle-ax and weapons of war: For with you I will break the nation in pieces; With you I will destroy kingdoms; with you I will break in pieces the horse and its rider; With you I will break in pieces the chariot and its rider; with you also I will break in pieces man and woman; With you I will break in pieces old and young; With you I will break in pieces the young man and the maiden; with you also I will break in pieces the shepherd and his flock; With you I will break in pieces the farmer and his yoke of oxen; And with you I will break in pieces governors and rulers.”

God is a mighty Warrior and a great King. He created the Heaven and the earth and all that are in them. He established His throne in Heaven from where He rules all His creation in righteousness (Ps 103:19). The earth was first revealed in Scripture as being in a dark chaotic state, and God in six days created the things in the earth thereby restoring order and setting the basic structure on which the earth stands up till this day. To complete His creative work on the earth, God created man in His image and gave him dominion over all His works, and commissioned him to fill the earth and subdue it.

The dominion God gave to man is His supernatural enabling to fulfill the responsibilities of the commission. There was no way Adam could have ruled the universe with only his natural ability; just as Noah could not have gathered all animals in the world into the Ark without God’s divine enabling; and just as Moses could not have subdued the greatest world power of his time to deliver Israel without the supernatural power of God. God’s design was for man to rule the world with His supernatural power.

Adam’s fall through disobedience made Satan to gain power over the earth; and Satan has over the years used his evil power and influence to corrupt the world and turn it against God’s righteous rule. This has culminated in the high level of immorality, perversion, wickedness, deception, witchcraft and occultism that is prevalent in our time.

Jesus came into the world to bruise Satan, destroy his works and restore man’s destiny before God. He sacrificed his life for the redemption of mankind. He rose again and commissioned his disciples to go into all the world and preach the Gospel. He said, "And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” (Mk 16:17,18). The supernatural power of God has been released to us through the Holy Spirit to destroy the works of darkness and establish God’s Kingdom on the earth. We all as believers in Christ Jesus are expected to possess and exhibit this power and use it to do exploits to the glory of God.

Pray: Lord, fill me with Your power and use me as your battle axe to destroy the works of darkness and establish your Kingdom on the earth.
