THE ROAR OF THE LION FROM ZION Part 2

Key Passage: Amos 2: 1 - 3

Thus says the LORD: "For three transgressions of Moab, and for four, I will not turn away its punishment, because he burned the bones of the king of Edom to lime. But I will send a fire upon Moab, and it shall devour the palaces of Kerioth; Moab shall die with tumult, with shouting and trumpet sound. And I will cut off the judge from its midst, and slay all its princes with him,” says the LORD.

God is the Judge of all the earth. He judges the world in righteousness. He abhors wickedness and pours out His wrath upon those who defile the earth with their evil deeds.

The rulers of Moab were known for their wicked deeds (2 Kg 3:26-27). When they conquered Edom, they burnt the bones of their king into ashes which was abominable to God and incurred His wrathful punishment.

The Lord resists the wicked – those who defy God in their lives and in their dealings with fellow human beings. These include those who worship the created rather than the Creator; those who seek wisdom and power from the dark kingdom; those who defile their bodies in immoral gratification; and those who call evil good and good evil. They also include those that rob others of their possessions; those that kill unborn children in the womb; and those that give themselves to vile affections, burning in their lust, men against men and women against women (Rom 1:21-32). All those who do these and such other loathsome deeds defile the land and provoke God’s curse and woe over the people that dwell in it.(Pro 3:33).

The wicked will not go unpunished for their evil. The Scripture says, “The wicked are doomed, for they will get exactly what they deserve” Is 3:11(NLT). “It will not be well with the wicked; nor will he prolong his days, which are as a shadow, because he does not fear before God” Eccl 8:13. “[The Lord] will rain down blazing coals and burning sulfur on the wicked, punishing them with scorching winds” Ps 11:6(NLT). “The cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death" Rev 21:8.

The only way of peace for the wicked is the path of humility and repentance. The Lord said, “Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon” (Is 55:7; Ezek 18:21). The choice is yours.

Prayer: Lord, take away every evil from my heart, show me the way of righteousness.
