GOD'S INSTRUMENT
OF POWER
Key Passage: Isaiah
41: 14-16; 2 Corinthians 10:4
"Fear not, you worm Jacob, you men of
Israel! I will help you, says the LORD and your Redeemer, the
Holy One
of Israel. Behold, I will make you into a new threshing sledge
with sharp teeth; you shall thresh the mountains and beat them
small, and make the hills like chaff. You shall winnow them, the
wind shall carry them away, and the whirlwind shall scatter them;
you shall rejoice in the LORD, and glory in the Holy One of Israel.”
“ For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God
for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every
high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing
every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.”
God made man to be the instruments through which He
will establish His righteous rule and show forth His praises on the
earth. Though man failed God through the disobedience of Adam, God
did not abandon the plan. He still searches the earth for people who
are submissive to His will and uses them for His glory (2 Chron 16:9).
Under the Old Testament, God chose the people of Israel as His instruments
to restore the worship of the One true God - JEHOVAH - in a world full
of idolatry. He gave them righteous laws in a world full of evil, wickedness,
immorality and perversion. He also used them to subdue and destroy
the sinful nations who occupied the land of Canaan. But the people
of Israel failed God by turning away from Him and sinning, even more
than the nations who God cast away before them; and God rejected them.
Under the New Testament, God has chosen the Church – the believers
in Christ Jesus - as His people to show forth His praise and establish
His righteous rule in an evil and corrupt world (1 Pet 2:9-10). His
purpose is to use the believers to reconcile men to Himself and change
the world to a place where the righteousness, peace and goodness of
God reigns; and where the works of the devil is destroyed.
Jesus said to his disciples, “You are the salt of the earth!” and “You
are the light of the world!” (Matt 5:13,14). God expects every
believer to bear a positive influence on the world and make it a better
place, to His glory. Jesus further said, “Behold, I give you
the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the
power of the enemy” (Lk 10:19). The supernatural power of God
has been released to every believer to destroy the works of darkness
and establish God righteous rule on the earth. We must therefore arise
in faith as God’s instruments, declare His authority wherever
we go and bring more people to the light of God through the Gospel.
Pray: Lord,
use me as your instrument to demonstrate to our world that you are
alive and your Kingdom rules over all.
