RECEIVING
THE HOLY SPIRIT
Key Passage: Job
26: 12-14
He stirs up the sea with His power, and by
His understanding He breaks up the storm. By His Spirit He adorned
the heavens; His hand pierced the fleeing serpent. Indeed these
are the mere edges of His ways, and how small a whisper we hear
of Him! But the thunder of His power who can understand?"
The Holy Spirit is the one that holds the creative
power of God. He is the Chief Executive of the Godhead, by whom the
Father and the Son perform their works. By him was all things made
and sustained (Job 33:4; Job 37:10), and by him, God “adorned (garnished and beautified) the
heavens” (vs. 13). Whenever the
power of God is displayed, the Holy Spirit is in manifestation. By
him is God’s authority enforced (Job 41:20-21;) - “His
hand pierced the fleeing serpent” (vs. 12-13).
So great is his power; but “how small a whisper we hear of him.” He
is most gentle by his personality, and always needs a vessel to operate
on the earth. He does not manipulate, intimidate or control; and he
does not possess, force or compel anyone against his will. He comes
upon yielded vessels to empower them and use them to manifest (Act
13:2). He releases his power (anointing) through these vessels to destroy
the works of the devil and enforce God’s Kingdom of the earth.
He filled Jesus without measure to empower him for his earthly ministry,
led him into the wilderness were he was tempted, and filled him with
power as he returned (Lk 4:1,14). Jesus recognized the Holy Spirit
as the one that authorized and empowered him to preach the good news
to the poor, heal the broken-hearted, deliver the captives, restore
blind sights, liberate the captives and proclaim the year of God’s
favor, which were the six-fold mandate of his earthly calling (Lk 4:18-19).
He acknowledged that it was through him he cast out evil spirits (Mt
12:28). And he told his disciples that he was their greatest need for
success in their calling (Jn 16:7). This same Spirit is willing and
ready to fill and empower all who believe in Christ Jesus and who desire
to be vessels for God’s service.
After a feast, Jesus shouted, “If anyone thirsts, let him come
to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said,
out of his heart will flow rivers of living water” (Jn 7:37-38).
If you believe and yield to him today you will begin to experience
an overflow of the power of God in your life.
Pray: Lord,
fill me with your Holy Spirit and use me as your vessel to destroy
the works of darkness and establish your Kingdom on the earth.
