Week 2: January 6 - 12, 2003

MIGHTY EMPOWERMENT FROM GOD

Key Passage: Judges 14:6,8

“And the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him, and he tore the lion apart as one would have torn apart a young goat, though he had nothing in his hand. But he did not tell his father or his mother what he had done. After some time, when he returned to get her, he turned aside to see the carcass of the lion. And behold a swarm of bees and honey were in the carcass of the lion.”

The Scripture teaches that as believers we are constantly engaged in warfare against the kingdom of darkness (Eph 6:12). One of the things about war situations is that the adversary could attack at anytime. It is therefore necessary that one is always at alert and fully equipped to repel any attack and subdue the enemy.

A roaring lion attacked Samson on his way, and the Spirit of God came upon him mightily. He rent the lion as if it was a baby goat. What great power one would exhibit in ones daily conflict against the kingdom of darkness if one is endued by the Holy Spirit. Had the Spirit not come upon Samson, he would have been powerless as any other man, and would have been meat for the lion. When he returned to the carcass of the lion, he found honey and bees, which became his booty of war.

The Holy Spirit is the Enabler in the Godhead. He releases the miracle working power of God to His people. That is the power we need to overcome in our daily warfare experiences to turn our battles into victories.

Jesus told his disciples, “Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpion, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you” (Luke 10:19). After his resurrection and before his ascension to heaven, he told them, “Tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you be endued with power from on high” (Luke 24:49). He knew that they could not have made any reasonable impact in a world dominated by evil without the empowerment of the Spirit. They truly waited and received the power. No wonder they were able to do exploits in spite of the oppositions they faced.

We all as believers need the power of the Holy Spirit in order to guarantee our victory against the kingdom of darkness. We need great power to overcome all Satan-inspired obstacles and setbacks of life. We need it to realize our live dreams and visions.

Pray- Lord, endue me with your Holy Spirit. Amen.
