THE UNFEIGNED FAITH OF A TRUE MOTHER

Key Passage: 2 Tim 1: 5

When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also. (KJV)

Lois was a true mother, a model of Christian faith who imparted her unfeigned faith to her daughter, Eunice, and her grandson, Timothy.

Unfeigned faith speaks of faith without pretence; sincere faith; faith that is real, genuine, pure and true; and faith that is not based on ones will, but on the will of God. This faith withstands trials. It is not moved by difficult circumstances. It is faith that conquers.

There is a challenge to every parent to pass on a godly posterity to his or her children. Mothers have a special role in this regards being the ones with closer affinity to their children. God expects every mother to nurture her children properly through instruction, discipline, good example and godly influence (Pro 22:6). But, the unfortunate thing in our today’s world is that a lot of mothers do not spend enough time with their children to impart these goodly qualities to them. Some are too busy, others are too lazy, and while some others do not have godly qualities they could share with their children. What do you expect from a mother who is irresponsible and unfaithful at home? What of a mother who is unforgiving and quarrelsome? And what of a mother who does not have a personal relationship with God? What can she impart to her children? I know mothers who are champions in worrying over matters and not in trusting God. I know those who curse and abuse their children when they make mistakes rather than being patient in training them.

The testimony of Lois is a great challenge to our mothers to be champions of faith. They should be examples in faith, prayer, purity, industry, courage, discipline, gentleness and love, and they should impart these virtues to their children.

Pray for all mothers you could remember that God will bless them and grant them the grace to pass on godly qualities to all their children. Pray that God grants them the unfeigned faith that overcomes.
