Breath of Power

A Weekly Devotional of Jesus Power Outreach Ministries

Week 9: February 24 - March 2, 2003

THE DAY IS NEAR

Key Passage: Malachi 4:1-2

For behold, the day is coming, burning like an oven, and all the proud, yes, all who do wickedly will be stubble. And the day which is coming shall burn them up,” Says the LORD of hosts, “That will leave them neither root nor branch. But to you who fear My name the Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings; and you shall go out and grow fat like stall-fed calves.

There is a day that will burn like an oven - a day of God’s judgment; a day of fear and terror; a day when God’s mercy will be withdrawn from the earth; a day when people will seek God and will not find Him. That day is coming, and it is near.

The terrible happenings in our world today: the terrorism, the hate-crimes, the assassinations, the religious conflicts and such like, are all pointing to the truth that the end is near.

The Lord spoke to us in a prayer meeting recently that the days of fear and terror have come upon our world. One would wonder, if our world could be so perilous, how much more hell where there is no presence of God, none of God’s love nor of His mercy. Hell is filled with the wrath of God. It is a place of torment and anguish; a place of darkness, weeping and gnashing of teeth; and a place of eternal doom for the ungodly and those who reject or forsake God. The Scripture says: “And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things that were written in the books. And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.”-Rev 20: 12a, 15.

“But to you who fear My name the Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings”- Mal 4:2. What a contrast between the destiny of the godly and of the ungodly. When a person makes his life the habitation of God, he experiences the peace of God and all of God’s blessings. That person is freed from the bondage of sin, the fear of death and the torment of Hell. Then God becomes his righteousness, his life, his joy, his strength and his hope.

“The end of everything on earth is near. So be serious and soberminded, that you may give yourselves to prayer” – Williams (1 Pet 4:7). May you be prepared and ready to meet the Lord with joy when that day comes.
