Week 8: February 17 - 23, 2003

GOD IS MY DEFENCE

Key Passage: Psalm 3:6-8

I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people who have set themselves against me all around. Arise, O LORD; save me, O my God! For you have struck all my enemies on the cheekbone; You have broken the teeth of the ungodly. Salvation belongs to the LORD. Your blessing is upon Your people.

God is a great defense to those who trust in Him. He will defend them in times of trouble. There could be times when you are surrounded by adversaries. These are people who are offended by your progress; people who hate to see you prosper; and people who are angered by your success in your life pursuits. Sometimes, they go all out to destroy you or forestall your progress; they device evil, and plot wicked machinations to cripple your efforts and disgrace you.

What then should you do when all these forces arise against you? Should you fear and give in to the desires of your enemies? No! You should come under God’s divine protection by faith. He is your shield, your glory and the one who lifts up your head (Ps 3:3). As your shield, He defends you from the attacks of the enemies; as your glory, He covers your shame, your reproach and your weakness, and brings beauty and strength to your life; and as the one who lifts up your head, He crowns you with favor and honor.

When enemies surround you and there seems to be no help for you, do not be afraid. Call upon God in faith. Cry to him to come to your help. He will hear. Nothing moves Him like the tears of His righteous children. He will arise for you, smite your enemies with His fist and destroy them ( vs.7). But for you, He will bless you with His salvation and establish you in His peace. Praise God!
