Satan’s greatest weapon of war against mankind
is deception. That is why he does not usually appear to man as an
ugly looking black monster, with horns and tail, but as an ‘angel
of light’ (2 Corinth 11:14-15). He tries to create an impression
in our minds that he is harmless and has a better option than what
we presently have.
Eve was naïve and unsuspecting. She met a sweet-tongued
serpent that appeared to appreciate their living condition in the
garden. It asked seemingly harmless questions, “Has God
said…?’; and made seemingly safe suggestions, “You
shall not surely die….” These were Satan’s
instruments of defiling the heart and mind of Eve. She knew what
God did not want them to do, but was deceived into doubting that
God was fair in forbidding them to do what seemed appealing and interesting.
Her imagination being defiled by those questions and suggestions,
she took the three back steps in the great fall in Eden.
First, she yielded to the dictates
of her defiled imagination. Second, she willfully
disobeyed her Creator. And third, she led her loved
one to join in enjoying the pleasures of sin.
Sin, whenever it is fulfilled, seeks for a companion.
It does not want to fall alone. It drags down the person it loves
most. That is the social dimension to sin. Satan knows that character
of sin and that is why he uses it. He knew he could not have gotten
Adam directly (1 Tim 2:14). He rather went for Eve knowing fully
well she would drag Adam down with her.
You must not be ignorant of the devices of the devil
(2 Corinth 2:11). You must guard your heart and mind from Satan’s
defiling questions and suggestions (Pro 4:23). You must not partake
with others in their sin (1 Tim 5:22; Pro 1:10). Know that there
is a devil out there waiting to celebrate your fall. Determine not
to let him party over you. Resist him vehemently and he will flee
(Jas 4:7; 1 Pet 5:8-9). Determine to be faithful and true to your
God and He will preserve and establish you.
