So remember your Creator while you are still
young, before those dismal days come when you will say, “I
don’t enjoy life.” That is when the light of the
sun, the moon, and the stars will grow dim for you, and the rain
clouds
will never pass away. Then your arms, that have protected you,
will tremble, and your legs, now strong, will grow weak. Your
teeth will be too few to chew your food, and your eyes too dim
to see
clearly. Your ears will be deaf to the noise of the street. You
will barely be able to hear the mill as it grinds or music as
it plays, but even the song of a bird will wake you from sleep.
You
will be afraid of high places, and walking will be dangerous.
Your hair will turn white; you will hardly be able to drag yourself
along, and all desire will be gone.
Aging is real and inevitable. When a person is young,
it will seem as if the youthful age will last forever. But there
is a day when the legs will be heavy and the eyes deem, when courage
will sag and strength diminish, when sumptuous meals will be tasteless
and beautiful music unpleasant, when old age will set in and life
become boring. Then there will be no more drive for success and exploit,
and one cannot put in his best in honoring and serving his Creator.
God desires that you spend your life wisely and
use your talents and abilities to serve Him at the best. There is
no better time to do exploits for God than now. This is the right
time to pray and seek His face to know what He wants you to do for
His Kingdom’s sake. It is the time to look inward to know the
talents and abilities you have that could be useful in serving Him.
Step out by faith and tell someone your testimony and the ‘Good
News’ of Jesus love. Spend a little time to pray for someone.
Give a gift to someone who could not afford it. Join an activity
group and help disciple others for Christ. Send support to that missionary
or ministry that needs it most. Ask your Pastor or fellowship leader
what you could do to help move the ministry forward. There are many
things you could do, as the Holy Spirit would direct you.
If we fail to use our talents and abilities at
the prime of our lives, we would have wasted a lot of the investments
God made on us as our Creator. The greatest act of appreciation we
can show to God is to honor and serve Him with those talents and
abilities. That will bring us divine commendation and eternal reward.
Remember the parable of Jesus, that the servant who was resourceful
with his talent was rewarded, while the servant who buried his talent
was condemned and thrown into outer darkness where there was weeping
and gnashing of teeth (Matt 26:21-30).
Pray that God will help you not
to waste your years, but use your talents and abilities to the glory
of His name.
