Key Passage: Judges
16: 22,28
However, the hair of his head began to grow
again after it had been shaven.
Then Samson called to the LORD, saying, "O Lord GOD, remember me,
I pray! Strengthen me, I pray, just this once, O God, that I may with
one blow take vengeance on the Philistines for my two eyes!”
There are times when some great heroes of the
faith have crumbled under the pressure of Satan and our evil world;
when they have fallen into sin or error; or have missed their way
and slipped from their faith. The Lord is saying through His word
that there is hope for such ones if they will return to Him and
seek His help to restore them.
Samson was a man of great destiny. Given as a
prophetic blessing to a barren family and a down trodden nation,
he was separated by God from the womb, anointed from childhood,
mightily empowered by the Spirit and used by God for great exploits.
But he took for granted the grace of God in his life and neglected
to keep the standard of righteousness required of a servant of
God. And Satan, knowing that swooped on him in that area of weakness,
turned him into a playboy and his spiritual life took a downturn
(See Jug 14:1,5,7). Samson still did great exploits, but Satan
knew he had the best of him, and it was just a matter of time to
get him. He finally did. Got him in the laps of a harlot and cut
off the secret of his strength. Alas! Samson “The Great” had
fallen.
Like a fallen soldier under the feet of his subjugators,
Samson crouched in defeat: overpowered, disgraced, blinded and
turned into a clown. His conquerors thought it was over, but they
failed to realize that God has got help for His fallen soldiers: “However,
the hair of his head began to grow again” (v22).
God is awesome in mercy. How could He hear, restore
and still use such a man that has failed Him so badly? That tells
you more about our God. He is so full of mercy and abundant in
kindness that He cannot reject a man who comes to Him in brokenness
(Ps 86:5,15). There is hope for you O fallen soldier. “Awake! … Shake
yourself from the dust, arise; Sit down, …Loose yourself
from the bonds of your neck”- Is 52:1-2. Cry out to God,
and you will receive the mercy-flow from the hands of Him that
was pierced on the cross for you – JESUS.
