God With
Us
Key Passage: Matthew
1: 18 - 23
Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His
mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together,
she was found with child of the Holy Spirit. Then Joseph her
husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public
example, was minded to put her away secretly. But while he
thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared
to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not
be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is
conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. "And she will
bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He
will save His people from their sins."
So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the
Lord through the prophet, saying: "Behold, the virgin shall be with
child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel," which
is translated, "God with us."
Man enjoyed God’s presence from the beginning. At the cool
of the day God came to the garden to commune with man (Gen 3:8).
However, when sin came, God’s relationship with man turned
sour, and the man who was God’s delight became condemned,
rejected and cast out of the Garden of Eden. The exit of the first
man and his wife from the first Paradise was an anti climax in
the beautiful story of creation. Man became separated from his
Maker and God, and Satan took advantage of that separation to frustrate
man’s destiny and turn his life into misery, shame and woe.
Jesus came into this world to restore God’s relationship
with man. He was born by a virgin in a manger in a little town
called Bethlehem, yet He was God present with His people. He came
as the Light of the world, but the world did not know Him. He is
the Kings of kings and the Lord of lords, yet it took wise men
to recognize and worship Him. God anointed Him as the Savior and
Deliverer of mankind, and He went around doing good, healing the
sick, setting the captives free and turning men to righteousness.
Little wonder angels sang to herald His birth: "Glory to
God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!" (Luke
2:14). Jesus is man’s dream realized; man’s hope rekindled
and man’s place before God restored. He touched every life
He met and gave it a meaning. May that same Jesus manifest Himself
to you this Christmas. May His presence bring the reality of God’s
love, care, protection and provision for you. May you experience
Him in your life, saying, “Lo, I am with you always, even
to the end of the age”. Amen – Matt 28:20. Have a Merry
Christmas.
