Now some of the elders of Israel came to me and sat before
me. And the word of the LORD came to me, saying, “Son
of man, these men have set up their idols in their hearts,
and put before them that which causes them to stumble into
iniquity. Should I let Myself be inquired of at all by them?
Therefore speak to them, and say to them, ‘Thus says
the Lord GOD: "Everyone of the house of Israel who sets
up his idols in his heart, and puts before him what causes
him to stumble into iniquity, and then comes to the prophet,
I the LORD will answer him who comes, according to the multitude
of his idols”
God hates falsehood and hypocrisy. Some elders
of Israel came to Prophet Ezekiel pretending to be honestly inquiring
for the oracle of the Lord, but had made up their minds on their
evil devices. God said, Himself would reply them. He would answer
them according to their idolatry; and His punishment for idolatry
is death (Deut 13:6-18).
There are many believers who come to God with their minds made
up in their evil ways. They go from church to church and from
one minister of God to another, seeking for someone who will
justify their evil deeds. God’s verdict against sin is
clear, “The Soul who sins shall die” (Eze
18:4). What God expects from a person who has sinned is repentance.
He wants him to come to Him with a remorseful heart, ask Him
for forgiveness and return to true fellowship with Him.
Hypocrisy and falsehood are the emblem of a backslidden people.
There are many people in church who come to God with their minds
made up on their evil ways. They do not want to hear anything
that will touch on their wrongful attitudes and sinful life styles.
Some move from church to church seeking for Pastors who would
tell them what they want to hear or justify their evil deeds.
God says, He will answer them - the wicked, the evil devisers,
the hypocrites, the liars and the idolaters. He will answer them
according to their wickedness and their idolatry. They will know
He is a consuming fire (Heb 12:29).
God says, “Repent or perish” (Lk 13:3).
If anyone will not repent and turn from his sinful ways, there
is nothing more God will do to save him from His anger and judgment
(Heb 10:27). “It is a dreadful thing to fall into the
hands of the living God” (NIV Heb 10:31).
