Every life is like a tree (Matt 7: 16-20), and fruit
bearing is God’s natural way of sustaining and multiplying
life on the earth (Gen 1: 11). Every tree is challenged to bear fruit,
or else, it will be worthless to the owner. God is not interested
in the outward looks of His children as He is in their fruitfulness.
If a believer does not bear good fruit, it implies that the investments
that God is making on his life are wasted.
Heaven’s verdict for unfruitfulness is certain – the
tree must be cut down (Luke 3: 9). Jesus told his disciples, “You
did not chose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should
go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain”-John
15: 16. The fact is that as believers we are conscripted into the
vanguard of Christ, and we do not have a choice. We are chosen and
appointed by Christ as God’s vessels to spread the rule of
God’s righteousness on earth.
Paul told Timothy, “Preach the word! Be
ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with
all long-suffering and teaching”- 2 Tim. 4:2. Of himself,
Paul said, “For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing
to boast of, for necessity is laid upon me; yes, woe is me if I
do not preach the gospel!”- 1 Corinth 9: 16. The task
of soul winning is for every believer and not just for any select
group in the church.
Is it not sad that evil is increasing and souls
are plunging into hell, while many believers are complacent? Is it
not sad that church pews are empty while bars and night clubs are
full? What is happening? Many are ‘at ease in Zion’,
and we must know that there is a curse on them (Amos 6: 1). But he
who wins souls is wise (Pro 11:30) for he shall wear the crown of
rejoicing (1 The 2: 19; Dan 12: 3).
Pray, Lord, create in me the hunger for souls. Make
me an effective vessel in your hands to bring souls to your Kingdom.
