Sanchez was at the porch of Hyatt Regency Hotel
in Guatemala City in Guatemala to ask for arms. His life had been
filled with tales of woes. He had lost his plumbing business, and
his wife had left with their two children. He had no job, no home
and no friend. He was just living by the day, sleeping in shelters,
by the roadsides and wherever he found space to place his head. For
him, life was meaningless, till that Saturday morning when he saw
some American businessmen, all dressed in suit, arriving for a meeting
at the Hotel. He hastened to meet them to solicit for arms. Many
of them seemed not to notice him, but he would not just go away.
Suddenly, one of the men turned to him, and with a wide smile like
someone who knew him for a long time, stretched out his hand and
offered Sanchez a card. “We are here for a breakfast meeting.
Can you please join us?” Sanchez was taken aback. He never
expected an invitation to dine in a gorgeous hotel. What he wanted
was just a token. He stirred briefly on the smiling face of the man,
and then looked at himself, and his eyes were fixed on his dirty
bare feet. He sobbingly said, “I have no shoes.”
The finely dressed smiling man was undaunted. “You can
come just as you are”, he replied. With much persuasion,
Sanchez followed them into the hotel and was soon sitting between
an architect and a businessman on a breakfast at the Banquet
Hall. There he heard the story of a dairy farmer who prayed for
his cows that were diseased and they were all healed miraculously.
The testimony made a deep impression in him and he spoke to himself, “If
God could change a cow, He could also change me.” He stood
up, walked through the isle and knelt down, weeping in front
of the platform. Some men came around him and helped him pray
to give his life to Jesus. He joined the fellowship and some
of the members helped him resume his plumbing business. Ten years
later, Sanchez stood in the same hotel to testify of how God
changed him from being a wretched sinful beggar to a Spirit filled
businessman with five thriving businesses in the city, because,
a man stooped to show him the true love of Jesus Christ.
This shows us how the love of God could change the destiny of
someone when we Christians step out and show it. There is no
better way we can win the world than through love.
Pray that God will use you as an instrument
of His love to touch someone positively. Ask God to change you
for good and to the glory of His name.
