INTEGRITY!
CAN IT BE FOUND? Part
I
Key Passage:
Job 2: 3, 9 - 10
Most men will proclaim each his own goodness,
but who can find a faithful man? The righteous man walks in
his integrity; his children are blessed after him.
Integrity speaks of moral excellence, uprightness,
honesty, incorruptibility, honor and probity of principles and practices.
That is the moral standard that God expects from all who serve Him
with a true heart (Ps 15:1-3, Matt 5:48).
However, integrity is a rare virtue in our world, even among ‘born-again’ Christians.
It is very difficult to get people that could be trusted. Very many people
are unreliable; the lifestyle of many is very deplorable; people throw morality
to the dogs and cover their lives with pretense, hypocrisy, greed, deception,
immorality and wickedness. The high level of dishonesty, corruption, greed,
falsehood and dishonor that is prevalent in our society is worrisome. Our
society is full of scandals, as leaders turn their positions of responsibility
into seats of corruptions, greed, immorality and oppression. Workers run
down their organizations through fraudulent practices; teacher molest and
abuse children placed under their care; marriage partners betray their marital
trust in their lustful pursuit of sexual pleasure; and even priests misbehave
before their parishioners.
In the face of all these happenings, what manner of life ought we to live
as true children of God? God boasted about His faithful servant, Job, and
testified of his integrity. Even when he came under serious pressure, Job
kept his integrity, and did not lift up his tongue against God (Job 2:3,9-10).
Rather, he said, “Though He slays me, yet will I trust Him” (Job
13:15). Abraham said to the king of Sodom, “I have raised my hand
to the LORD, God Most High, the Possessor of heaven and earth, that I will
take nothing, from a thread to a sandal strap, and that I will not take anything
that is yours” (Gen 14:22-23). Joseph said to his amorous mistress, “How
then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?” (Gen
39:9). And Jesus testified of Nathaniel, “Behold, an Israelite
indeed, in whom is no deceit!” (John1:47). These men walked in
moral uprightness in their generation and became living examples that integrity
is an attainable virtue.
Pray, that God will raise and establish men
and women of integrity in our time. Repent from every act of
distrust and dishonesty, and pray, that God gives you the grace
to be a living example in integrity in our time.
