WHEN
THE ENEMY THINKS IT'S OVER
Key Passage: Judges
11: 1-3, 5-6
Now Jephthah the Gileadite was a mighty man of valor, but
he was the son of a harlot; and Gilead begot Jephthah. Gilead’s
wife bore sons; and when his wife’s sons grew up, they
drove Jephthah out, and said to him, "You shall have no
inheritance in our father’s house, for you are the son
of another woman." Then Jephthah fled from his brothers
and dwelt in the land of Tob; and worthless men banded together
with Jephthah and went out raiding with him. And so it was,
when the people of Ammon made war against Israel, that the
elders of Gilead went to get Jephthah from the land of Tob.
Then they said to Jephthah, "Come and be our commander,
that we may fight against the people of Ammon."
As a child of God, you should know that your destiny is not in
the hand of any man or woman, but in God’s. God knew you
before he called you to serve Him, and as He called you, He has
a good plan for your life (Jere 29:11; Rom 8:29-30). He is able
to bring to pass what He destined for you. You may be down today,
but be assured that God will lift you up. The devil may be pummeling
you with trials, afflictions, oppression and persecution, but remember,
he does not have the last say. God is the Alpha and Omega. He will
see you through, and those who despised you will return to honor
you.
Many things were against Jephthah as he was growing up, but one thing he
had on his side was that he had a surviving spirit. His brothers must have
wished him dead, but he refused to die. They humiliated him and kicked
him out of his father’s house thinking to destroy any hope of success
in his life. However, Jephthah would not succumb to the desires of his
foes. When he found himself in Tob, a desolate land away from the comfort
of home, he chose to take his destiny in his hands by faith. He saw other
people facing similar predicaments: who were rejected, disillusioned or
disappointed, and teamed up with them to make themselves relevant in life.
They trained themselves into warriors. One day, the table turned, and the
same people that threw him out were on their knees seeking his help. Then
it was clear the God of Jephtah had the last say.
Be assured that you will not perish in your predicament if you will hold
unto God in faith. Your enemy may seem on top today, but God says, “I
will overturn, overturn, overturn it…!” Ezek 21:27. God knows
how to set your enemies up to bow to you (Gen 44:14; 2 Sam 22:45). His
seeming foolishness is wiser than human wisdom and His seeming weakness
is stronger than human strength (1 Cor 1:25,27). At the fullness of time
He will bring to pass His promise in your life and you are bound to laugh
last (Job 8:20-22).
Pray: Lord,
turn every situation around me for my good. Let those who are plotting
for my fall be clothed with shame.
