JUSTIFIED
FREELY BY GOD'S GRACE
Key Passage: Romans
3: 21-26
But now a righteousness from God, apart
from law, has been made known, to which the law and the prophet
testify.
This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ
to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned
and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely
by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.
God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith
in his blood. He did this to demonstrate His justice, because
in His forbearance He has left the sins committed before hand
unpunished – He did it to demonstrate His justice at the
present time, so as to be just and the One who justifies those
who has faith in Jesus (NIV).
A Christian is not one who has never sinned, but
whose sins has been forgiven by God and washed away with the precious
blood of Jesus Christ. Man became separated from God because of the
sin of disobedience. He could not also do anything to reverse his
sinful condition because of his fallen nature. Even all man’s
righteousness are as filthy rags and unacceptable before a holy God
(Is 64:6). As a result, all men stood condemned for their sins and
doomed to face God’s eternal punishment in hell. But at God’s
appointed time, God made a way for man to return to Him through the
sacrificial work of Jesus on the cross of Calvary. By that, man’s
sins are forgiven and he is declared just and accepted before God.
Justification is a legal situation where a person standing trial
before a judge is acquitted because there is no legal basis to convict
him. Though all mankind has sinned and are condemnable for their
sins, God, the moral Law Giver of the universe, by His sovereign
will, has decided to justify all who come to him through faith in
Christ Jesus. This is a free gift from God who is rich in grace and
abundant in mercy.
The sacrifice of Jesus on the cross was for the atonement of man’s
sins. It satisfied God’s righteous demands and appeased His
wrath against man as a breaker of His moral laws. Now, we have
peace with God and can fellowship freely with Him as His sons and
daughters without any feeling of inferiority, shame, guilt and
condemnation (Rom 5:1-2). We can call on Him and be rest assured
that He hears us and is willing to help us. What a glorious life
we have in Him because we are justified freely by His grace.
Pray: Thank you Lord for the forgiveness of my sin and the peace
I now share with you. Help me to live righteously all the days of
my life and be a partaker of your eternal glory.
