PUTTING
YOUR NEED ON GOD'S TOP AGENDA
Key Passage: Matthew
15: 22 - 28
And behold, a woman of Canaan came from that region and
cried out to Him, saying, "Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son
of David! My daughter is severely demon-possessed." But
He answered her not a word. And His disciples came and urged
Him, saying, "Send her away, for she cries out after us." But
He answered and said, "I was not sent except to the lost
sheep of the house of Israel." Then she came and worshiped
Him, saying, "Lord, help me!" But He answered and
said, "It is not good to take the children’s bread
and throw it to the little dogs." And she said, "Yes,
Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from
their masters’ table." Then Jesus answered and said
to her, "O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you
as you desire." And her daughter was healed from that
very hour
Can you imagine yourself running out of gas in a remote inter-state
route and on entering the only gas station in the area, you are
told, “We can’t serve you. You don’t belong to
the Club.” You could be frustrated and infuriated. However,
the Canaanite woman in the passage was not. She came to that meeting
expecting a miracle from Jesus, but she was not just ignored and
neglected; she was declared unfit to receive. She readily stomached
the seeming insult and focused on the solution to her problem.
She found an answer of wisdom and faith: “Yes, Lord,
yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs ….” What
she was saying was like - “Even as a dog, I can’t
still be left out. I can receive a miracle and that is all I want.
A crumb from Jesus will satisfy my need.”
This woman by the simple demonstration of faith, humility and perseverance
brought herself to the top of God’s miracle agenda. Her attitude
made Jesus to wonder and say, “O woman, great is your faith.” Her
daughter was healed at that very instant.
There are times we are turned away from our blessings because of some frustrating
and disappointing situations. When such situations arise, we could learn
a lot from the attitude and response of the woman. Worthy of note are:
her heart of expectation that made her to seek Jesus for her miracle; her
resilient spirit that would not be turned back; her reverential fear that
made her to worship Jesus and seek his help; her humble spirit that would
not take offence at negative comments about her; and her firm belief that
crumbs of bread of Christ’s healing power was sufficient to deliver
her daughter from satanic bondage. These worked together to bring for the
woman a miraculous deliverance on her daughter.
We can as well walk into God’s top agenda by pressing on with our
faith and not letting any circumstance or situation frustrate us out of
our determined goal.
Pray, Lord,
grant me the faith and grace to stand in spite of all odds.
