Key Passage: John
1: 30; 1 Tim 3: 16
"This is He of whom I said, ‘after
me comes a Man who is preferred before me, for He was before
me.’”
“ And without controversy great is
the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh,
Justified in the Spirit, Seen by
angels, Preached among the Gentiles, Believed on in the world,
Received up in glory.”
Jesus is the Almighty God manifested in human
flesh. The Scripture reveals that the whole fullness of deity dwells
bodily in him (Col 2: 9 NRSV). He is the visible image of the invisible
God (Col 1: 15 NLT); the brightness of His glory and the express
image of His person (Heb 1: 3). For by Him all things were created
that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible,
whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things
were created through Him and for Him (Col 1: 16).
This is he of whom Moses prophesied that the
Lord would raise from Israel and to whom all must listen to and
obey (Deut 18: 15-16).
He is the one of whom the Psalmist said, “Your throne, O
God, is forever and ever; a scepter of righteousness is the scepter
of Your kingdom” Ps 45:6. Prophet Isaiah said of him, “For
unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government
will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful,
Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Is
9:6).
Jesus is the hope of the living and the dead,
the light of the world, the comfort of man’s soul and the greatest dream of
the redeemed. He came as the Good Shepherd to seek and save the
lost, and as the Compassionate Physician to heal the sick and the
broken hearted. He is the True Hero that delivers the captive and
the oppressed; takes away heavy burdens and gives true rest. He
said, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden,
and I will give you rest” (Matt 11:28).
But when he came into the world, they did not
know him; when he came to his own, they did not receive him (Jn
1:10-11). He was
betrayed by one of His disciples, falsely accused by the elites
of Israel and wrongfully condemned by the ruling Roman authority.
He was crucified on the cross of Calvary, but on the third day,
he rose again, ascended to Heaven and now seats at the right
hand of God.
Jesus is the only sacrifice for our salvation,
the Mediator of the covenant between us and God, and the High Priest
that took
the blood for our atonement into the Holiest Place in the highest
Heaven. Call him into your life today as your Lord and Savior.
Make him your friend, and determine to walk with him all the days
of your life and you will experience his peace – perfect
peace (Ps 37:37; Jn 14:27).
