There are times people experience seasons of drought – when
the heaven is closed. At such times, doors of blessings close, labors
turn fruitless and endeavors become unprofitable. These are seasons
no one desires to have. Seasons of drought come as a result of God’s
judgment over a people. It could also occur as an invasion of the kingdom
of darkness against the welfare of a people.
When people turn away from God and wallow in sin, God visits them
in judgment and cuts off the natural and spiritual blessings that
flow to their lives. This world and all the people in it are God’s,
and His Kingdom rules over all (Ps 24: 1; 103: 19). Everyone is answerable
to God for his life, and anyone who disobeys His will is subject
to His divine judgment, both in this life and in the life after.
When Adam disobeyed God, God cursed the ground for his sake, and
the ground which was meant to be Adam source of prosperity was now
to bring forth thorns and thistles (Gen 3: 17-19).
When God was taking the people of Israel to the Promised Land, He
warned them about the grave consequences of sin – “thy
heaven that is over thy head shall be brass, and the earth that is
under thee shall be iron”. This describes a condition where
the atmosphere is not replenished with aqueous vapors, which results
in the area not having rain. Hence the ground will be too strong
to break and anything planted shall have no moisture.
In our world today' that is laden with wickedness, idolatry, immorality,
perversion, hate, terrorism and other abominable evils, one would
not be surprised that we are experiencing a global recession. In
the individual lives, families and communities where these vices
are prevalent, we do not expect the less. God is no respecter of
persons. He demands righteousness from all that dwell on the surface
of the earth and punishes the sinful, except he repents.
Repent and pray for forgiveness for every sin in your life and ask
God to turn away His judgment from you. Intercede for your family,
your loved ones and your community, that they turn to God and that
He visits them with mercy.
