Opened Heaven Part I

Key Passage: Genesis 28: 10 - 13, 15

Now Jacob went out from Beersheba and went toward Haran. So he came to a certain place and stayed there all night, because the sun had set. And he took one of the stones of that place and put it at his head, and he lay down in that place to sleep. Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. And behold, the LORD stood above it and said: "I am the LORD God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie I will give to you and your descendants. Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have spoken to you."

Opened heaven is a definite divine experience that brings a season of outpouring of heavenly riches. It occurs when God who rules the heavens and the earth visits a person in His love and power. Then is a season of favor, a time of the opening of closed doors, an era of remarkable breakthroughs and a period of unexpected opportunities.

Jacob’s doors seemed closed as he ran away from his father’s house to take refuge in Haran because of the wrath of his brother. When he arrived in Luz, he could run no more out of weariness of the body and soul. He had lost all he had dreamed of and was now a fugitive with no knowledge of when and how he would return home. There, the darkness of the night came over him. The only pillow he could find for his head as he fell into slumber was a stone. But there, God found him and gave him an opened heaven.

Opened heaven is a privilege of the covenant people of God who believe on His promises. God never forsakes His people. And even when they seem to come to the ends of their roads, and when darkness seems to pervade all around them, He lifts up the face of His countenance upon them and shows them the way of victory. He said, “Test Me in this and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it” (NIV Mal 3: 10). He also said, “Be glad then, you children of Zion, and rejoice in the LORD your God; for He has given you the former rain faithfully, and He will cause the rain to come down for you—the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month. The threshing floors shall be full of wheat, and the vats shall overflow with new wine and oil. So I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, The crawling locust, The consuming locust, And the chewing locust, My great army which I sent among you. You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, and praise the name of the LORD your God, Who has dealt wondrously with you; and My people shall never be put to shame. (Joel 2: 23-26).

Pray that God will throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out to you abundant blessings that will swallow up every darkness and misery in your life.
