Key Passage: Luke
8: 22-25
Now it happened, on a certain day, that
He got into a boat with His disciples. And He said to them, "Let
us cross over to the other side of the lake." And they launched
out. But as they sailed He fell asleep. And a windstorm came
down on the lake, and they were filling with water, and were
in jeopardy. And they came to Him and awoke Him, saying, "Master,
Master, we are perishing!" Then He arose and rebuked the
wind and the raging of the water. And they ceased, and there
was a calm. But He said to them, "Where is your faith?" And
they were afraid, and marveled, saying to one another, "Who
can this be? For He commands even the winds and water, and they
obey Him!"
Progress results from positive change, and positive
change does not come easily because it takes one out of his comfort
zone. When a man is in his comfort zone, he faces little or no
challenge because he is operating within a familiar terrain. But
when he awakes to his need for progress and steps out in faith,
he experiences unexpected problems. We must realize in life that
change is imperative because stagnation is transient death. If
we must live and prevail, we must make progress; and to make progress,
we must be ready to confront and overcome the problems and challenges
of life in the power of the Almighty.
Jesus and his disciples set out to go “to the other side”,
away from their familiar terrain of ministry, but the disciples
did not know what was awaiting them on the way. At the midstream,
while Jesus was asleep, a terrible windstorm arose against them
that they despaired for their lives. In their fear, they awoke
Jesus who arose and exercised authority over the wind and the waves,
and they became calm.
Every believer should know that there is an enemy
that does not want him to make progress. He is the Devil. He is
the invisible
force behind most of the troubles we face whenever we take steps
towards our destiny. His objective is to frustrate every move at
progress in our lives, keep us at our comfort zones and drag us
down to stagnancy and death. Our response to Satan’s onslaughts
should not be of passivity or panic as was exhibited by the disciples.
It should rather be of faith, courage and authority as exhibited
by Jesus. Jesus knew the Word of God that the Lord God Almighty
rules the raging of the sea, and when its waves arise, He stills
them (Ps 89:9). He therefore confronted the storm by faith in the
power of God. He commanded it to be silent, and it obeyed him.
We must likewise arise in faith and exercise authority as believers
over every storm that threatens our efforts at progress and we
shall experience God’s victory and peace.
Pray: In Jesus
name, I command every storm raging in my life to be still. I decree
that God’s peace shall prevail in my life. Amen.
