Breath of Power - Week 37/04

Week 37: September 6 - 12, 2004

In the Last Days

Key Passage: 2 Tim 3: 1-5

But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: for men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!

The level of evil and wickedness in our world today makes it obvious that we are in the last days. The Scripture forewarns us that these days will be characterized by ever-increasing evil, great moral decadence and multiplication of false beliefs. These phenomena are the result of great satanic invasion of our world (Is 60:2). The devil, knowing that the time for his final judgment is near, is releasing his most wicked spirits upon the earth (Rev 12:13). His intent is to destroy the morality of the people in the world and turn their hearts away from God through immorality, perversion, abuse, godlessness, deception, falsehood and other forms of evil and wickedness.

These evil phenomena are manifest both in the world and in the church of God. In many quarters, the values of morality, modesty and discipline that were cherished in time past have been thrown to the winds in the name of fashion and modernization. There is a spate of violent crimes, political conflicts and wars. People’s clamor for power, wealth and fame has become intoxicating. Multiplicity of false beliefs and false religions is rampant. Occultism and Satanism are spreading like wildfire especially among the enlightened in the society. All these are signs of the end of times.

Even in the Church, the situation is very deplorable. There is a lot of ungodliness and compromising lifestyle witnessed among the believers. Indulgence in secret sins, immorality, division and strife is prevalent. Many evils are being done in the name of God. There are very many false prophets today who go around with their false teachings, multiplying false beliefs among the people. Many of these are notable speakers in big meetings and are given prominent spots in the radios and televisions. They are very crafty and manipulative in their operations that many people, including some honest seekers are deceived. That is why the time demands watchfulness from every true child of God.

The Scripture calls the time, ‘perilous times’, which indicates that those who are not watchful are in the danger of being caught in the web and drawn away from the faith.

Pray that God will keep you watchful in these last days that you do not become ensnared by the devil to fall away from the will of God.
