"I have told you these things, so that
in Me you may have [perfect] peace {and} confidence. In the world
you have tribulation {and} trials {and} distress {and} frustration;
but be of good cheer [take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted]!
For I have overcome the world. [I have deprived it of power to
harm you and have conquered it for you.]" Amp.
Many believers face various life contradictions.
Some have unfulfilled dreams, unrealized visions and unachieved goals
and aspirations. These problems are frustrating and make some people
disillusioned about life. Some even doubt the veracity of the word
of God as a result of the problems they are facing. But that should
not be. Every believer should face life challenges with fortitude,
faith and courage, because our Lord and Savior, Jesus, has conquered
the world.
The world does not have good plans for a child of God. It brings
trials, distresses and tribulations from all sides to frustrate the
designs of God in his life. That should not be surprising since Satan
is the one who originates and inspires our present world system.
The Scriptures refers to him as “the god of this world” – the
evil genius that manipulates and controls the affairs of this present
age (2 Cor 4:4). He is the enemy that prowls around like a roaring
lion seeking who he may devour (1 Pet 5:8). Jesus described his mission
on earth as, “to steal, and to kill, and to destroy” (Jn
10:10). He is the unseen personality behind the temptations, troubles
and tribulations we face in the world.
Jesus was manifested on earth to destroy the Devil’s works
and set mankind free from his power (1 Jn 3:8). Though he is God
indeed, Jesus humbled himself and came to the world in human flesh
to truly identify with man’s frailty. He was tempted by the
Devil on every side, yet he did not sin. Satan inspired men to oppose
his mission. He was despised, rejected and betrayed; was falsely
accused, wrongfully condemned and brutally nailed to the cross. There
he died and was buried, but on the third day, he rose again. The
Scripture reveals that through his death, Jesus destroyed Satan and
his cohorts, and delivered mankind from his bondage (Heb 2:14-15;
Col 2:15). Satan has fallen, not to rise again, for Jesus has conquered
him, depriving him of the power to harm those who put their trust
in him (Lk 10:18-19).
We believers have no other reason to fear the onslaught of the Devil,
knowing he has been defeated. When Jesus rose from the grave, the
victory he won through his death became irreversible and when the
Holy Spirit descended on the day of Pentecost, that victory was transferred
to the believers. Now “we are more than conquerors through
him that loved us” (Rom 8:37). Greater is he that is in us
than he that is in the world (1 Jn 4:4).
Pray, Lord, help me to always
recognize the victory of Jesus and by it, stay on top of every
situation in my life.
