Key Passage: 1
Corinthians 15: 3-6
For I delivered to you first of all that which
I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the
Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the
third day according to the Scriptures, and that He was seen by
Cephas, then by the twelve. After that He was seen by over five
hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to
the present, but some have fallen asleep.
How foolish it was for Satan and the demons of Hell
to think they were winning when Jesus died and was buried in a sealed
tomb. The Scripture says, “Had they known, they would not have
crucified the Lord of glory” 1 Cor 2:8. Through his death,
Christ destroyed Satan who had the power of death (Heb 2:14). He “disarmed
principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing
over them in it” Col 2:15. On the third day of his death and
burial, Jesus conquered death, broke the grave and came up alive.
When he arose, Jesus showed himself alive to many of his disciples
who were earlier hopeless and afraid. Within a period of 40 days,
he made at least twelve separate appearances to not less than 500
disciples. They saw him, talked with him, touched him and ate with
him. He said to the doubting Thomas, "Reach your finger here,
and look at my hands; and reach your hand here, and put it into my
side. Do not be unbelieving, but believing" Jn 20:27. By his
several appearances, he armed his disciples with an unmistaken conviction
that he is alive, that he has defeated Satan and his cohorts, and
that all authority belongs to him.
Once when he appeared to them, Jesus told his disciples, "Peace
to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you." And when
he had said this, he breathed on them, and said, "Receive the
Holy Spirit” (Jn 20:21). He then mandated them to “Go
into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature” Mk
16:15. He enjoined them to wait in Jerusalem for the enduement of
power of the Holy Spirit. In their very eyes, Jesus ascended into
Heaven to sit at the right hand of the Father. The power came on
the disciples on the day of Pentecost, and they went out and preached
the Gospel as Jesus commanded them, and God was with them confirming
their words with signs.
We all as Christians are called to believe as the early disciples
believed and walk in the power of the Holy Spirit as they did. The
Lord will be with us confirming our words with signs. That is were
we stand.
Pray: Lord, help me to live in the full conviction
of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus; fill me with your Holy Spirit
and
enable me to preach the Gospel with Power.
