WHY UNDERRATE GOD?

Key Passage: Numbers 11: 21-23

And Moses said, "The people whom I am among are six hundred thousand men on foot; yet You have said, ‘I will give them meat, that they may eat for a whole month.’ "Shall flocks and herds be slaughtered for them, to provide enough for them? Or shall all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, to provide enough for them?" And the LORD said to Moses, "Has the LORD’S arm been shortened? Now you shall see whether what I say will happen to you or not."

There are times we underrate God by underestimating His power to intervene in our situations. God is mighty in power and great in His works. Nothing is impossible for Him. He is able to fulfill all that He promises, and He is faithful to His word. As long as you are holding unto His word, you have no reason to fear. He will surely fulfill all He has promised.

Who could have thought that Abraham and Sarah would rock their own baby in their arms at their old age? Who could have thought that Moses could overwhelm the powers of Pharaoh and deliver Israel from the bondage of Egypt with just a shepherd’s staff? And who could have thought the gate of Samaria would overflow with abundant food and provisions just a day after women ate their children because of hunger (2 Kg 7:16)? But these all came to pass because God, who is the Almighty, spoke, and His word had to come to pass.

Moses found himself in a dilemma as he led the people of Israel through the wilderness. The people were provoked to wail and complain because of the lusting of the mixed multitude. They lost sight of the sustaining grace of God which they had enjoyed, despised the Manna which God had provided and lusted for meat. This provoked God to anger against the people. Moses, rather than look up to God and trust Him for solution, turned to Him with a complaint, “Why have you brought all these troubles on Your servant? Where can I get meat for all these People” (Num 11: 11,13). God replied and told him, “I will give them meat to eat, not just for few days, but for one whole month”. Yet, Moses, responded in unbelief - “Would they have enough…?” But God said to him “Moses, Has the Lord's hand (His ability and power) become short (thwarted and inadequate)? You shall see now whether My word shall come to pass for you or not.” (Num 11:21 Amp). And surely it did. A mighty wind from the Lord drove quails from the sea and flooded the ground all around the camp that everyone had more than enough.

God is Omnipotent. There is nothing too hard for him. Only trust in Him and you will experience His miracle working power on your behalf.

Pray: Lord, help me never to doubt your ability to do what you have spoken concerning me; do wonders in my life that people may know that I serve a living God.
