The experience of the Israelites in Egypt reveals that one could
be a child of God but may be under bondage, affliction or oppression.
The people of Israel served under the cruel bondage of Egypt for
400 years. But when they cried to God, He anointed Moses and mandated
him to go and set them free.
God’s strategy in executing the mission was militant. He did
not send Moses to negotiate with Pharaoh for their release, but made
an authoritative demand, “Let My people go, that they may serve
Me.” Deliverance is an authoritative exercise to forcibly free
a person held under the power of a strong enemy.
God is willing and ready to release His mighty power to deliver His
people from bondage when they turn to Him for help. Some people are
held under bondage by human or demonic forces, while others are enslaved
to abuses, indulgences and works of the flesh. These may be in the
form of drug addiction, alcoholism, pornography, sexual perversion,
lust, immoral thoughts and such like. Such people need to humble
themselves before God, repent and confess any sin in their lives
and cry to Him for deliverance.
The primary purpose of deliverance is to release the victim from
bondage, oppression and affliction so that he may be free to serve
God at his best. Zechariah the father of John the Baptist, inspired
by the Holy Spirit, said “that we, being delivered from the
hand of our enemies, might serve Him without fear, in holiness and
righteousness before Him all the days of our life” (Lk 1:74-75).
We are freed to serve and it is in serving that the purpose of God
for our lives is fulfilled.
Determine today to be free from every bondage, sickness, disease,
oppression and affliction; and cry to God for help. Surrender your
life to Him absolutely and commit yourself to serve Him at your best.
Pray: Lord, help me!
Set me free that I may serve you.
