Key Passage: Job
19: 9
The righteous will move onward and forward,
and those with pure hearts will become stronger and stronger. NLT
Righteousness is moral uprightness. It is the
state of being right, just and accepted before God. It is standing
before God without any sense of guilt, condemnation, shame or inferiority.
It is that state of life that is pleasing to God.
When a person’s life pleases God, God keeps and preserves
him and enables him to overcome life challenges. God does not want
the righteous disgraced or destroyed (Ps 121:3); He stands by his
side and defends him. He helps him in his life endeavor and delivers
him from his adversaries.
Righteousness is strength, because the upright cannot be faulted.
If a man is sinless, Satan is rendered powerless over his life.
He lacks the authority to attack, afflict or destroy him. Satan
knows this, and that is why in his subtlety, he tries to manipulate
and deceive people to sin. Sin is rebellion against the sovereign
will of God the Creator. It destroys a person’s place of
favor before God and gives Satan power to rule his life.
God is righteous in all His ways. No wonder His power is above
every power, His authority rules over all and His word is established
forever. When Jesus the Son of God came into the world, he lived
a righteous life: "Who committed no sin, nor was deceit found
in His mouth" 1 Pet 2:22. Since he never yielded to sin, Satan
never got the power to rule him. His ways pleased God and He used
him to destroy the works of the devil wherever he went. He healed
the sick, cast out demons and exercised mastery over all the powers
of the earth. Even at his death, the powers and authorities of
Hell had no power over him. He rather disgraced and disarmed them,
making a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by his
cross (Col 2:15). He walked in perfect victory in all his life.
Walking in righteousness is a matter of choice for a child of God.
It is a choice to live a life that is pleasing to God; a choice
to walk in victory over the kingdom of darkness; a choice to prosper
in ones entire endeavor. God’s word challenges us to pursue
righteousness: “Awake to righteousness, and do not sin” 1
Cor 15:34. As we walk in that path, God makes our lives more meaningful
as the day goes by and preserves us to spend eternity with Him
in glory (Pro 4:18).
Prayer: Heavenly Father, teach me your ways;
help me to always walk in righteousness and live victoriously
over sin, Satan and the world.
