Key Passage: 2
Corinthians 13: 14
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the
love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you
all. Amen.
It is important for us to recognize that the Holy
Spirit is not just a force, power or influence. He is a person
having mind, will and emotion and who longs for relationship with
every believer in Christ Jesus. Jesus said he is the “Helper” who
will abide with us forever (John 14:16). It is in our communing
with him that the work the Father sent him to do in us is actualized.
Communion is from the Greek word, “koinonia”, which
means, fellowship, participation or intercourse. These denote a
relationship of intimate friendship that involves sharing of feelings
and thoughts. It is as the believer involves himself with the Holy
Spirit in such intimate way that the Holy Spirit imparts in him
the grace, character and nature of God.
The primary elements that enrich friendship are recognition, respect,
understanding, communication and intimacy. We need to always recognize
the presence of the Holy Spirit in us, though we do not see him
physically. We need to separate ourselves from the things that
grieve him and live a holy life. We also need to seek to know him
more, understand his ways and receive his guidance in our affairs.
In addition, we need to constantly communicate with him in prayer,
praise, worship and adoration. Above all, we need to love and enjoy
his presence and let him touch, fill and use us.
Friendship gets sweeter when it gets deeper. That is the progression
we need in our communion with the Holy Spirit to receive the greatest
of his divine grace. Our communion with him should be with passion
and fervency and should take us to the state of ecstasy where nothing
else matters but his presence, love and power. At that level the
outpouring of his blessings and grace is unlimited and our hunger
for more of God is satisfied.
Prayer: Dear Holy Spirit, draw me into that deeper relationship
that will make me one with you; manifest yourself to lead, guide
and direct me to my victory now and always.
