Key Passage: Isaiah
52: 13-15
Behold, My Servant shall deal prudently; He
shall be exalted and extolled and be very high. Just as many
were astonished at you, so His visage was marred more than any
man, and His form more than the sons of men; so shall He sprinkle
many nations. Kings shall shut their mouths at Him; for what
had not been told them they shall see, and what they had not
heard they shall consider.
The world was taken by storm when Mel Gibson first
released the movie, “The Passion of the Christ”. It presented
a sensational graphic description of the events of the suffering
and death of Jesus Christ. As I watched the movie, I wondered, “Could
any man have suffered this much before dying?” Then was my
mind cast to the passage, “They shall see my Servant beaten
and bloodied, so disfigured one would scarcely know it was a person
standing there. So shall he cleanse many nations” Is 52:14-15
TLB.
Jesus sacrificed more than any man could for the salvation of mankind.
He was tortured more than any man could have taken. Satan must have
desired him to die before Calvary, but Jesus held his breath and
refused to die. Man had power to torture and wound him, but could
not take his life (Jn 10:18). He held unto his life until he could
offer it on the cross of Calvary, thereby providing the blood for
the “sprinkling of many nations” for the atonement of
man’s sins.
Christ took much pain that we may have peace with God; he was wounded
and bruised that we may be healed and restored; and he became a curse
that we may be blessed. God let him to bow so low that he might lift
us from sin, shame and woe. Now, we are redeemed and have become
the sons and daughters of the Most High God – heirs of God
and joint heirs with Christ. His sacrificial work was for the redemption
of the whole man – spirit, soul and body. The same sacrifice
that sprinkled us and cleansed us from sin brought us peace with
God and healing from our infirmities (Ps 103:3).
When we receive his salvation and do not receive his healing, we
waste his sacrifice (Matt 18: 16-17). He took them all out of the
way, nailing them to his cross (Col 2:14). He has done away with
them once and for all that our freedom and victory may be complete
and eternal.
Pray, Lord, help me to appreciate how much Christ
suffered to secure my salvation and healing; give me the grace to
walk in
victory all the days of my life.
