Key Passage: Psalm
27:
1 - 6
The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom
shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall
I be afraid? When the wicked came against me to eat up my flesh,
my enemies and foes, they stumbled and fell. Though an army may
encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war should
rise against me, In this I will be confident. One thing I have
desired of the LORD, that will I seek: that I may dwell in the
house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty
of the LORD, and to inquire in His temple. For in the time of
trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; in the secret place
of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon
a rock. And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all
around me.
There is no better place to be than in the presence
of God. Even in times of trouble, a great privilege we can enjoy
as God’s children is to hide under the shadows of His wings;
for God is Light, Salvation, Strength and Refuge to His people.
At a critical time when life storms were raging
and enemies were locking around, King David found God as the anchor
of his soul.
Consequently, he witnessed his enemies stumble and fall; he had
no fear in the face of great oppositions; and he was confident
to face the challenges of life before him. David identified the
secret of his strength to be his resolve to stay in the presence
of God, commune with Him and seek wisdom and direction from Him.
The presence of God is both a living fountain
that springs forth life, strength, confidence and wisdom, and a
secret pavilion where one is preserved from the
wrath of ones foes. It is also a springboard that launches a person to great
heights in life – above his enemies. The Scripture says, “You will
show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right
hand are pleasures forevermore” (Ps 16:11). “Glory and honour are
in his presence; strength and gladness are in his place” 1 Chron
16:27 KJV).
Any time spent in God’s presence, in personal devotion, in meditating on
His word, in talking to Him in prayer, in listening to His voice, or in praising,
worshipping and adoring Him, is very precious. That is when many life battles
are won and we all as believers are encouraged to treasure such a time.
Pray: Draw me, Lord, into your presence and enable me to drink from your living fountain;
keep me in your pavilion and preserve me from the wrath of my foes.
