Key Passage: Genesis
1: 1-3
In the beginning God created the heavens
and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness
was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering
over the face of the waters. Then God said, "Let there be
light"; and there was light.
The Holy Spirit is the third person in the Godhead.
He is the repository of the authority, power, knowledge, wisdom
and might of the Almighty God. He was first introduced in Scripture
as a Defender and Restorer of the earth. It is amazing that when
the earth was overwhelmed by the original chaos and when darkness
covered the earth, the Holy Spirit did not leave, but kept hovering
over the earth, incubating it for the next move of God.
At the difficult and dark moments of our lives, when many of our
friends turn their back on us, the Holy Spirit remains an abiding
friend and companion. He is always there to defend us from the
onslaught of the wicked one and to encourage, strengthen and lead
us till the evil tide is over. Even when we sin, He does not leave,
but abides to convict us and lead us to repentance so that the
mercy of God would be poured on us.
We cannot order our lives in the best way we should without his
help. We cannot also withstand the powers of darkness in our own
strength. The Holy Spirit is always there to direct and lead us,
and to empower us to overcome the forces of darkness. The Scripture
says, “‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ says
the LORD of hosts” (Zech 4:6). “When the enemy comes
in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD will lift up a standard
against him” (Is 59:19).
We need to recognize him and let him take his rightful place in
our lives and we will experience his mighty power. We also need
to surrender every situation to him and let him have his way. There
is no limit to what God will do where the Holy Spirit is allowed
to move.
Pray: Come Holy Spirit, I need you. Come Sweet Spirit and move
in every situation in my life. Let me experience your mighty power
and victory, in Jesus name.
