Key Passage: Genesis
14: 21-23
Now the king of Sodom said to Abram, "Give
me the persons, and take the goods for yourself." But Abram
said to the king of Sodom, "I have raised my hand to the
LORD, God Most High, the Possessor of heaven and earth, "that
I will take nothing, from a thread to a sandal strap, and that
I will not take anything that is yours, lest you should say, ‘I
have made Abram rich’
One of Satan’s strategies in shortchanging
or denying God’s people their promised blessings is by swapping
the blessings with counterfeits. He takes away the “genuine” and
replaces it with an “imitation”, and substitutes the “ultimate” with
the “alternative”.
The experience of many believers is that most
of the time that God purposed to do great things in their lives,
Satan came along
and flashed an alternative that would take them away from the purpose
of God. He has used the instruments of enticement, seduction, manipulation
and deception in this endeavor because he knows that once a person
receives the “alternative” he cannot have the “ultimate”.
Today, many people are in the wrong businesses, the wrong careers
and the wrong relationships, because as they were expecting the
genuine packages from God, Satan double-crossed them and gave them
an attractive alternative and they accepted it.
Abraham was faced with the same challenge as
he returned from the conquest of the great kings that conquered
Sodom and her neighbors.
God sent Melchizedek the King of Salem, the priest of the Most
High God to receive him and release upon him the blessings of the
Most High God, the Possessor of Heaven and Earth. At the same time,
Satan sent the king of Sodom, the land of iniquity. And the king
of Sodom was quick at giving Abraham a seemingly great offer: “take
everything …, just give me the captives.” The offer
appeared wonderful and would have turned Abraham into a multi-millionaire
overnight. But Abraham would not be deceived. He knew that the
offer was the riches of immorality, perversion, corruption and
rebellion against God; and that it was a swap. He had gotten the
genuine blessing from the Most High God and would not defile it
with the riches of Sodom. He did not want to fall into the error
of Lot who foolishly jumped into a prosperity that was to soon
perish and turn him into penury. He said to the king of Sodom, “Away
with your riches…; it cannot bless. My eyes are upon the
Most High God; He will gives me the true riches.”
True riches are pure and undefiled. They are
from above and they endure. They come from a Heavenly Father that
desire the best for
His children. Those are what you need and not the swap from Lucifer.
Pray: Lord, take away from me any desire that
is contrary to Your will; bring to me the blessings that will make
me truly rich and
that will endure.
