THE WAY
OF OBEDIENCE Part 2
Key Passage: John
14: 15, 21-24
"If you love Me, keep My commandments. He who has My
commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who
loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and
manifest Myself to him." Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, "Lord,
how is it that You will manifest Yourself to us, and not to the
world?" Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone
loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him,
and We will come to him and make Our home with him. He who does
not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear
is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me.”
Obedience to God is absolute submission to the will and counsel
of God. It is willing and unreserved compliance to His words, commands
and precepts. It is the proof of true love and commitment to God.
Anyone who claims to love God but does not keep His word is a liar.
Only those who obey God are pleasing Him.
Obedience is at the foundation of every true relationship with God. People
of old who walked with God were people of obedience. Noah found favor with
God (Gen 6:8). He obeyed God and built an ark which God used to preserve
life on the earth after the great flood. Abraham was called a friend’s
of God (Is 41:8). He obeyed God when he was called to dwell in a land he
did not know. God blessed and prospered him and made his descendants to
inherit the land. When God demanded that he sacrificed his only son, he
readily obeyed. God multiplied his blessings, confirming it with an oath
(Gen 22:15-18).
The way of obedience is the secret path to an active warm relationship
with God. Jesus said, “He who has My commandments and keeps them,
it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father,
and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.” (vs.21). Obedience
brings us into a deeper experience with God, strengthens our fellowship
with Him, purifies our worship and makes us favored by God.
Christ showed us an example of true love and commitment to God and to mankind
through his obedient sacrifice. Through that he won the highest favor of
God and became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey him.
We all ought to live by the example of Jesus and obey God in every area
of our lives (Our careers, marriages, businesses and lifestyles). Our obedience
to Him needs to be absolute heartily, unreserved and unrelenting. That
is the secret path to a continuous and unfailing friendship with God that
guarantees His boundless blessings, favor and prosperity.
Pray: : Lord, show me
the way of obedience and bring me into a friendly relationship with
You that will open the door of your unlimited blessings in my life.
